Seve Foundation raises over £2 million
December 20, 2011

Golf legends paid tribute to their beloved team mate on Wednesday night (14 th December) and helped the total raised for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation since inception reach £2 million.

Ryder Cup Captain Jose Maria Olazabal and top golfer Sandy Lyle led the moving commemorations at 'Viva la Vida' - a star-studded evening raising money for Seve's legacy, the Seve Ballesteros Foundation.

'Viva la Vida' which translates as 'Live the life' was held at the Natural History Museum, and hosted by Ben Shephard. Celebrities including Damon Hill, Bernard Gallacher, Jimmy Tarbuck, Ken Brown and Andrew Cotter also attended.

In 2009, Seve Ballesteros set up his Foundation in partnership with Cancer Research UK with the aim of being the biggest funder of brain cancer research in the UK. Last night's event which included an auction of memorabilia and money can't buy golfing experiences, bought the total raised by the Foundation so far to more than £2million.

Ivan Ballesteros, Seve's nephew and manager, said:

"Seve's determination to help others through his Foundation has been truly inspirational and it's fantastic that his legacy is being kept alive by events like Viva la Vida.

"He would be so moved to know that last night helped bring the total raised by the Foundation so far to more than £2 million for vital research into brain cancer. This is such a fitting tribute to everything he stood for."
