Top professional backs Derbyshire junior golf development

European and Challenge Tour player Stuart Davis is backing the drive to introduce more people to golf in Derbyshire, with the Kedleston Park GC player agreeing to become an ambassador for Derbyshire Golf.

Stuart is keen to encourage and promote the development work of Derbyshire Golf. He is particularly interested in supporting the programmes and initiatives that encourage junior golf.

Commenting on his new role, Stuart explained "I am delighted to have been asked to work with Derbyshire Golf. I believe the work they are undertaking to develop the game in Derbyshire is well overdue.

Stuart Davis"I am particularly keen to see more young people take up the game of golf and enjoy the opportunities it can provide for them. I will be supporting and promoting the programmes to nurture the game at every level."

Stuart played county golf for Derbyshire, captained England Schoolboys in 1991, represented England Youths in 1992/93 and was a member of the England squad from 1992 to 1997.

He was also a semi-finalist in the English Amateur Championship in 1993, the British Amateur Championship in 2001, won the Midland Amateur Championship in 1999 and 2000 and was English, British and European Universities champion in 1992.

Stuart turned pro in 2001 and quickly found success in the professional game winning the Mastercard Open that year. He qualified for the Challenge Tour at the 2003 European Tour Qualifying School and graduated to the main European Tour following his 20th place finish on the 2008 Challenge Tour.

Nigel Furniss, Derbyshire Golf Development Officer, commented; "We are delighted that Stuart has agreed to become an ambassador for Derbyshire Golf. He clearly sees the value of our work and will help us to promote our programmes and initiatives moving forward."
