Team Hamill reigns at TGI Golf Challenge
April 8, 2011

Lisburn Golf Club PGA Professional Stephen Hamill guided his team to victory in thesecond annual TGI Golf Overseas Team Challenge held at the luxurious Lykia Links Resort in Turkey.

The competition - run by TGI Golf, Europe's leading buying group for golf professionals - saw more than 40 teams from across the UK and Ireland travel to the Belek region on Turkey's Mediterranean coast to compete over two rounds on Lykia Links' pristine fairways.

The Irish team, which included Lisburn members Errol Jenkins, James Fulton and GarethConn, scored 168 Stableford points over the two rounds, beating last year's champions from West Middlesex Golf Club into second place by just two points to claim the top prize.

Stephen Hamill, who was competing in his first Overseas Team Challenge, said: "After the first day we didn't really think we had much of a chance. Young Gareth Conn held us together, he was the main man scoring well, but the rest of us didn't really perform. However, on the second day we all clicked and scored very well.

"The whole event was outstanding from the moment we stepped off the plane in Turkey. TGI Golf and TaylorMade-adidas looked after us well, they had everything sorted and we enjoyed first class treatment all the way."

TaylorMade-adidas Golf (TMaG) and Ashworth supplied a number of amazing prizes - including drivers, irons, adidas shoes and a round at any Marriott resort, while every team received Ashworth shirts for each day of the trip.

Eddie Reid, TGI Golf Managing Director, said: "The Overseas Team Challenge continues to go from strength to strength. This year we increased the package from a five-day trip to seven days and everyone who took part was extremely complimentary describing it as 'the best run golf event'.

"TGI Golf has very few opportunities to promote to the consumer the high quality of its members and itself as an organisation, so we are always pleased to run these excellent events alongside TaylorMade-adidas Golf and Ashworth."

The TGI Golf Overseas Team Challenge is just one of many events staged by the group throughout the year, offering its members the opportunity to come together in an informal environment and play some of the world's best golf courses with their customers and suppliers.

Stephen Hamill added: "These kinds of event add tremendous value to our stock as PGAProfessionals, as it gives us the opportunity to offer something extra to our members."

James Fulton, who was part of Hammill's winning team, was equally complimentary of the trip. "I was thrilled to be on the winning team. And the prizes - wow," he exclaimed. "I have caddied for Stephen for many years, including on the European Tour and in many pro-ams, but I have never seen or been part of a better-organised and managed event. Thank you to all the TGI Golf staff for doing such a brilliant job."
