The Oxfordshire geared up for a good cause

On Friday 18th November 2011, The Oxfordshire Golf Club hosted a charity golf day in aid of the 'BBC Children in Need Appeal', with each of the 92 participant's green fee donated to support the outstanding work carried out by the charity. Sponsored by VPAR, Leaderboard, and Humphris Oxford Ltd -Mitsubishi , the event proved to be a great success raising funds of over £8,000 .

The Oxfordshire encouraged both members and non-members to participate in this special event, and a total of 23 teams enjoyed playing on this world-renowned championship course whilst contributing to a valuable charitable cause.

After a successful 18-hole round with a fantastic score of 91 points, the winning team consisted of Richard Williamson, Paul Woodbine, Robert Williams and Chris Milner, who each won an Oxfordshire holdall and a 4 ball voucher for Chart Hills, Dale Hill, Sandford Springs and Studley Wood. The best individual of the day was Gary Pickford with 43 points, for his great performance he received a pass for up to five people to Badminton Horse Trails courtesy of Humphris Oxford Ltd-Mitsubishi.

The golf day also included a 'nearest the pin' contest. The talented winners included Paul Barry on the 2nd hole, who won a 4-ball voucher for Sandford Springs and Mitsubishi Shogun for 3 days, and Brian Rose on the 5 th who was rewarded with a 4-ball voucher for Dale Hill and Mitsubishi Barbarian for 3 days. Richard Williamson got closest to the pin on the 15th , and won a 4-ball voucher for Sandford Springs and a Mitsubishi ASX for 5 days.

Beginning at 8.30am, players were served breakfast on arrival in the Lakes Lounge which offers stunning panoramic views of the Chiltern Hills, before heading out to the green where a Team Stableford format with a shotgun start began the day's golf.

After a day on the green, participants enjoyed a 3-course dinner followed by a prize presentation with live entertainment from the sought-after comedian Adger Brown. Tom Varndell the wing from London Wasps, also attended the evening in support of the charity and drew the winning entry for the Wentworth prize. There then followed an entertaining charity auction which helped to raise further funds for BBC Children in Need., Hilton Hotels, London Wasps, Newbury Racecourse, Oxford United, Pinks Boutique, Stoke Park , Sunningdale Golf Club, The Buckinghamshire Golf Club and Wentworth Golf Club are among the companies who kindly donated auction items.
