Rory McIlroy win bad news for bookies
June 20, 2011

The popularity of Rory Mcllroy with William Hill shop punters was proved today with Hils paying out a monster six figure sum after his record win at the US Open. The gamble on Rory had gone slightly under the radar as it consisted of golf fans who were placing fivers and tenners at 16/1. "Mcllroy was particularly popular with our retail customers who have placed large numbers of small bets on him to win but overall we have broken even as our online clients were all over Donald, Westwood & Mickelson," said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

Rory is 9/2 to win The Open, the only player in Championship history other than Tiger to attract a quote of less than 6/1. Rory is 25/1 to win both the remaining majors in 2011, 5/2 to have won Five or more major championships by the end of 2020 and 16/1 to beat Jack Nicklaus record of major wins.

"Mcllroy is now the man to beat and despite only having one Major under his belt you can see him challenging the great Jack Nicklaus’ record of Major wins," said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.
