Windlesham Golf Club increases investment & growth
October 18, 2011

Surrey-based Windlesham Golf Club today announced the arrival of an entire new fleet of course equipment through a business partnership with John Shaw Machinery and Torro. The Club's strategy of continued investment and improvement has led to significant business growth.

In a climate where many golf clubs are exercising financial restraint, Windlesham Golf has bucked the trend of the wider industry and invested in a new fleet of green keeping equipment, buggies and fairway irrigation. Part of a 10-year plan defined for the course by world-renowned golf course architects, Hawtree, Windlesham Golf Club has also invested significantly in its property and grounds over the last two years, with planning permissions currently being considered for further developments to improve the facilities.

The Club already boasts one of the most successful golf retail businesses in the south east of England, and is quickly matching that success elsewhere in the business.

Peter Lumley, Managing Director at Windlesham Golf Club explained, "Overall the net membership numbers for our financial year 2010 to 2011 have been growing year on year. In fact, we are only 12 places off our five-day memberships being completely full. We are also reporting a steady growth curve for coaching, food, beverages, member functions and rounds of golf . Perhaps most rewarding of all though, is that our member retention is well above industry average, which again bucks the wider trend."

The management team at Windlesham Golf Club is largely comprised of a mix of golf professionals and entrepreneurs from outside of the traditional golfing industry. Peter attributes some of the Club's success to the refreshing approach of the team.

"The Club prides itself on having a truly inclusive personality and an obsessive approach to perfectionism," continued Peter. "Everything from the modern but sophisticated décor right through to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes the Windlesham Golf experience extremely attractive among business and golf members. That is evidenced in our rapidly growing numbers."

The par 72, 6,650-yard course was designed by PGA Tour veteran Tommy Horton and is situated just off the junction with the A30 and A322 in Windlesham, Surrey. For further information see or call +44 (0) 1276 452220.
