Golfer to play 10 rounds in a day
Jamie Kennedy, a keen scratch-golfer based in Edinburgh, is setting out on a day of golf to remember as he bids to raise £10,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation ® UK. On June 27th , he will be playing 10 rounds of golf in a single day.
A former pupil at George Watson's College and US college golfer at Jacksonville University in Florida, Jamie has always had an 'outside the box' approach to life, and this challenge is no different. Having watched golfers raise money playing 4 or 5 rounds of golf in a day, Jamie decided it was time to up the stakes in order to gain the support and attention needed to reach his £10,000 target.
So, with the support of the club, Mortonhall Golf Club, Jamie will be teeing it up around 4am and will playing 180 holes around the long, hilly, par-72 course located in the south side of the Capital.
"I wanted to set myself a challenge that was both testing and unique. I have done charity runs, 10km and half marathons, in the past. Whilst they are certainly testing, they have become pretty common and with my passion for golf, I wanted to think of something equally testing on the course."
As well as preparing for the challenge that will combine more than 52 miles of golf, and more than 5000ft climb throughout the day (equal to the highest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis), Jamie is tracking his progress and training in a blog (link below).
"It felt like a natural way to let people know how seriously I am taking the challenge and keep them updated with my practice, training, fundraising etc. My hope is that people will enjoy following my training and that the support will be reflected in the money I raise."
In an effort to learn more about Make-A-Wish, Jamie has become an official volunteer and will go through training with the charity to allow him to visit wish families, help in events and be more involved with the charity he hopes to help.
Finally, in addition to the challenge day itself, Jamie is hosting a fundraising dinner on May 11 th at the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel. He hopes to host more than 150 people for Masquerade themed dinner with speakers, prizes, raffles, and more information on the challenge.
