Child protection workshops for golf clubs in Northumberland
February 24, 2012

Golf clubs across Northumberland are being urged to sign up for a new course to help ensure they have the right child protection policies in place.

The workshop is being backed by The PGA, English Golf Union, English Women's Golf Association and Golf Foundation as part of the Children in Golf Strategy Group.

"It is essential that those working at the 'sharp end' of golf delivery for young people are informed about child protection issues and how it affects the way they work," says Lisa Ferrie, county development officer for the Northumberland County Golf Partnership.

The safeguarding and protecting children workshop is taking place at the City of Newcastle Golf Club, in Gosforth, on Thursday, April 12 (6pm-9pm) and is aimed at golf professionals, junior organisers, volunteers and club secretary/managers.

The course has been subsidised by EGU/EWGA and will be offered for £28 per person. It is also open to under-18s, but a parental permission form must be completed before attendance.

At the workshop, attendees will:

•  Discuss what constitutes good or poor practice

•  Discuss a range of child protection issues and scenarios

•  Be given information on how to respond to an incident or allegation

•  Receive a copy of the Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf, an SCUK Resource Book and certificate of attendance

To enrol log on to www.childreningolf.org , follow the link to the schedule of workshops,

click on the workshop that interests you and book the required places and pay online.

If you do not have access to the internet, please contact Karen on 0121 452 5975. A maximum of 20 places are available on a first come, first served basis.

The England Golf Partnership is a collaboration of a number of stakeholders in the sport including England Golf - the organisation formed by the merger of The English Golf Union and The English Women's Golf Association - the PGA, the Golf Foundation and Sport England.

In Northumberland the county partnership is supported by the Northumberland Union of Golf Clubs, the Northumberland Ladies County Golf Association, the Northumberland Junior Golfing Association and the Professional Golfers' Association.
