Global stars headline Costa Brava's International Music Festival
June 20, 2012

The gothic city of Peralada in Spain's  Costa Brava  region is set to welcome a host of stars from the world of opera, music and dance for the  XXVI Festival Internacional de Musica Castell de Peralada  (International Music Festival Peralada Castle), July 17-August 22.

In front of an expected 40,000 crowd, big-name performers will include American singer and composer Harry Connick Jr and five-time Grammy Award winning music legend Dionne Warwick, as well as one of opera's hottest properties, Jonas Kaufmann.

Ramón Ramos, Director at Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, commented: "The medieval city of Peralada is steeped in culture, heritage and history, and has hosted the International Music Festival since 1987, when Montserrat Caballé, one of Catalonia's iconic prima donas, opened the inaugural event.

"Born out of the Renaissance era, Castell de Peralada is the perfect setting for concerts, performances and musical renditions," he continued. "Annually, it has showcased over 25 events - from classical concerts, operas and dance performances to lyrical recitals and symphonic and choral selections - by Spanish and internationally renowned singers, dancers and conductors."

Therefore, golfers looking to infuse sporting breaks with a touch of culture this July and August should consider Spain's north eastern coast where golf, gastronomy and history combine to create a perfect golfing holiday.

"This year, we're honoured to host important names, such as The Deutsche Oper Berlin with Mozart's Don Giovanni, world-famous flamenco dancer Sara Baras, and Barcelona Ballet's principal dancer Angel Corella, as well as bring famous performances including Il Trovatore by Verdi and Follies to the stage," added Ramón Ramos.

"Moreover, we wanted to celebrate the anniversaries of composers Debussy and Montsalvatge, as well as historical events of the year 1812, including Russia's defense of Moscow against Napoleon's advancing Grande Armée at the Battle of Borodino, commemorated in Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture."

Located just five miles from the Mediterranean coast of Costa Brava, close to Cadaqués and the bay of Roses, as well as a mere eight miles from the French border and just seven miles from Dalí's birthplace of Figueres, Peralada is accessible by car, train and air, and is within an hour's drive from Girona Costa Brava Airport, a major Ryanair hub.

For golfers making  Peralada  their base, they are less than 30 minutes from  Torremirona Golf Club  that boasts a fantastic Hotel Relais and under 45 minutes from both  Golf Girona  and Spain's new number one golf course*  PGA Catalunya Resort .

Within a 54-mile radius (87 km), golf enthusiasts have a choice of 10 leading courses and clubs, all offering a variety of golfing experiences, facilities and spectacular views of the Costa Brava.
