Free lessons for golfers in Cumbria
January 11, 2012

A new year provides the perfect excuse to make a new start - especially if you want to live a healthier lifestyle.

Now two schemes from the Cumbria County Golf Partnership are making it easier than ever for people to give golf a try - and enjoy the health and social benefits of the sport.

Both the Golf 4 Girls and the Healthy Golf Force programmes are offering six weeks of FREE golf lessons from a qualified PGA coach.

Sessions will take place during February and March with Golf 4 Girls open to all females aged 16 and over who are new to golf or who are returning to the sport.

Healthy Golf Force is aimed at employers and employees across the county and offers the chance to help create a healthier and more sociable workforce. A pilot scheme in 2011 proved very popular with firms taking part ranging from a garage, a timber business to a RAF station.

All equipment is provided and anyone interested should contact the location that best suits them.

For further information about the Get into Golf schemes visit www.cumbriagolf.org or contact county development officer Jane Robinson at cdocumbria@yahoo.co.uk

Says Jane Robinson: "The Golf 4 Girls scheme offers the ideal chance to try golf in the company of people in a similar position - whether it be a group of friends or a few family members, such as a mum and daughter.

"Healthy Golf Force offers the chance of not only finding a way for co-workers to enjoy a more active lifestyle but to spend some time together in a fun environment away form the pressures of work.

"Both these programmes offer an opportunity for anyone interested in playing golf to take the plunge - and it won't cost them a penny!

"The lessons will provide a fun and structured introduction to the game and the start of a new year is a great excuse to take up a new hobby.

"The clubs taking part will be keen to encourage anyone interested in taking the sport further through additional coaching or club membership offers."
