Frilford Heath hosting first PGA Europro event
July 10, 2012

Anyone who loves golf will be heading to Frilford Heath (nr Abingdon, Oxon) later this month when the club stages its first full PGA Europro Tour event.  The Buildbase Open (Weds 18 - Friday 20 July) will see golfers from across the UK and Europe battle it out on the Red course to win their share of the £40,000 prize fund.

The prestigious golf club will be throwing open its doors to spectators who can walk the beautiful 6,912-yard championship course.  Entry is free to spectators throughout the three-day competition.  Spectators can follow the field of up to 168 players who compete on the first two days   A larger crowd is expected for the final day following the cut which narrows down the field to the leading 50-strong group.

Sky Sports will capture the action as it unfolds.  This will be shown in two highlights programmes broadcast after the event

National builder's merchant Buildbase is the main sponsor.  The business has its head offices at Oxford Business Park and launched its very first branch at Johnsons Buildbase in Watlington Road, Cowley.

Executive director Alistair Booth comments: "It's the first time that we have secured an event of this standing and that's a huge achievement.  We've been investing heavily in recent years to improve our facilities and this makes it all worthwhile.

"We're looking forward to the excitement that the Buildbase Open will generate among the local golfing fraternity and hope that as many enthusiasts will take the opportunity to explore the 500-acres here and see some wonderful golf.

"Many of the up and coming golfing stars of the future will be fighting it out for a place in the final.  The grounds staff have been working hard to get the course in the very best condition so, all-in-all, it's an event not to be missed."

A Pro-Am is being held at Frilford on Tuesday 17 July involving a number of local businesses who will have the chance to play with a professional on the championship course, off the white tees.

Members of the public visiting the club for the Buildbase Open will be able to use the clubhouse and its acclaimed restaurant during the three-day event. Tee times have yet to be announced but play is likely to be longer when the full field of players compete on the first two days.

Any spectator who visits during the three-day tournament can ask at the club office for a discount voucher.  This can be redeemed when buying a green fee ticket to play any of the courses at Frilford between 1 August and 31 December 2012.

The Buildbase Open is one of the last of a season of qualifying events for professionals being staged between April and October which culminates in the Tour Championship.  More details on the Buildbase Open and the other PGA Europro Tour events can be found on the website
