Free golf taster sessions in Staffordshire
January 10, 2012

The new year is the perfect time to take up a new hobby - especially if it helps lead to a healthier lifestyle.

Now golf clubs across Staffordshire are making it even easier to give the sport a go - and enjoy the health and social benefits linked to playing.

A number of free taster sessions are being held to give would-be golfers the chance to try out the sport.

Keele Driving Range is holding a one-hour taster session with a PGA professional on January 7 (4.30pm).

Free taster sessions are also taking place at Lichfield Golf and Country Club (1pm) and Branston Golf and Country Club (4pm) on January 14.

Also on offer at the John Letters Academy in Walsall is an adults learn to play programme. No experience or equipment is necessary to take part in the group sessions of up to 10 people who will all be starting out in the sport. These start from January 14 (2pm-5pm).

The Chase Golf Club and Spa is holding a men only group coaching session on January 17 (6.30pm-7.30pm) while it's ladies first on January 15 (2.30pm-3.30pm) with both sessions offering friendly and informal coaching with a qualified PGA professional.

Says Sean Hammill, county development officer for the Staffordshire County Golf Partnership: "These schemes give anyone interested in trying golf the ideal opportunity to give it a go with people in a similar situation.

"It is a sport that offers a healthier lifestyle and, with the potential for club membership in the future, an enjoyable social life, too."
