Hoebridge Golf Centre Pro Ben Rosser swaps the course for marathon circuit
May 9, 2012

Hoebridge Golf Centre PGA Professional Ben Rosser was back teaching this week with aching joints after clocking a time of four hours 38 minutes in last week's London Marathon.

Completing the gruelling marathon concluded a great week for Rosser who was also promoted to Assistant Lead Coach for the Surrey Golf Partnership's Futures Programme.

"It's been a pretty special time," said Ben. "I was happy with my time, it took a little longer than I'd anticipated, but then the marathon proved to be a lot tougher than I was expecting - it was a great experience and I have managed to raise more than £1,600 so far for Cancer Research, which is the main thing."

Having lost his grandfather and his fiancée's uncle to the illness Rosser was determined to raise as much money as possible for the charity that is so close to his heart.

"Things got pretty tough around the 17-18 mile mark, and seeing people dropping out around that stage makes it even harder," added Ben. "But the thought of raising the money as well as the fantastic crowd keep you going - I had my name on my running vest and having the crowd chanting your name and encouraging you to keep going really gives you a lift.

"Crossing the finishing line was quite emotional, so many people have helped me along the way and sponsored me so I owe them all a huge thank you."

Ben, who teaches golfers of all ages and abilities at Hoebridge Golf Centre - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - is now back into the swing of his day-to-day coaching and competing on the TP Tour Series - a professional golf tour founded by former European Ryder Cup star Ronan Rafferty.

Mike O'Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: "Ben has been extremely busy lately combining his coaching, competing and training for the London Marathon, so it is a fantastic achievement for him to have completed the race in a very respectable time.

"Everyone at Hoebridge Golf Centre is extremely proud of him, we know how close his chosen charity is to his heart, so to have raised so much for Cancer Research is brilliant."

It's not too late to sponsor Ben, donations can still be made at .
