Champion of champions crowned at Hoebridge Golf Centre
October 30, 2012

Hoebridge Golf Centre welcomed the return of the best golfers to grace its spectacular 18-hole Park Course this year, for a special Medal Winners Day.

The public pay-and-play facility - part of BGL Golf, the UK’s leading golf course owner and operator - invited the winners of society matches from throughout 2012 to compete in the special event, with more than 80 golfers from across the country challenging for the honour of being champion of champions.

In a closely fought battle, Stuart King and Roger Hill from Farnborough snaffled victory on countback from the hands of Mark Grist and Mike Green from Woking, with both pairings scoring 76 Stableford points.

Played over the beautifully laid out 18-hole Hoebridge Course, designed by former Ryder Cup captain and golf legend John Jacobs, Portsmouth partnership Steve Uwins and Pete Nicholls made the most of their return taking the prize for third.

Runner-up Mark Grist proved the biggest hitter on the day, winning the Men’s Longest Drive, while Ashstead-based Deryn Hemment took the Ladies’ equivalent. Meanwhile, on the par-3 6th, Ken Brudnell peppered the pin to take the prize for nearest the pin home to London.

Mike O’Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: "Every year we welcome hundreds of golfers from across the country to Hoebridge as part of golf society groups, and wewanted to reward them for choosing Hoebridge by offering their winner the opportunity to return with a guest and compete to be crowned best of the best.

"It was very exciting to welcome them back for this competition and pleasing to see it so well attended, with 86 golfers taking part.

"Hoebridge offers a variety of packages for societies and corporate days, and with Christmas fast approaching, golfers can take advantage of our yuletide offers."
