Aces high at Hoebridge Open Week
August 9, 2012

Rosemary Kennett achieved one of the greatest feats in golf when she shot a hole-in-one during Hoebridge Golf Centre's Ladies Open last week,

Kennett's ace came on the 112-yard par-3 12 th  hole on the 18-hole Hoebridge Course at the public pay-and-play centre, however it was not good enough for her to win the event, one of four Open competitions at Hoebridge, which saw more than 180 golfers from across the region compete.

Hoebridge - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - staged Mixed, Ladies, Juniors' and Seniors' Open competitions throughout the week.

The team of Maggie Gaffney, Jean Watson and Hiroko Kawamishi of Foxhills Golf Club took the honours in the Ladies Open, scoring 88 Stableford points to win by three shots.

In the Junior Open 12-year-old Connor Norman-Walker tamed his home course - designed by former Ryder Cup captain and golf legend John Jacobs - with a nett 67, which was enough on count back to defeat Wentworth Club's James Taylor. The gross prize went to Callum Mackay whose sensational level par round of 72 earned the West Hill guest first place.

The team of Paul and Kay Stonier were victorious in the Mixed Open, scoring 39 points three clear of second placed Mike Henley and Phim Elsing, whose margin over third placed Mike and Judy Smith was also three shots.

In the final competition of Hoebridge's Open Week, Dan Brewin scored 40 points to become Seniors' Open Champion, two shots ahead of Gary Aswani and Chris Coombes, who were placed second and third respectively after count back.

Mike O'Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: "It's wonderful to have welcomed so many visitors for the Open Week, it shows what high esteem Hoebridge is held in to have so many people travelling from around the region to take part.

"Congratulations to each of the winners, and I look forward to welcoming all of the visiting participants back to Hoebridge soon."
