Daniel Gaunt wins first event of The 2012 Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series
February 29, 2012

The Bedford Golf Club provided great course conditions for the first of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series, in association with Titleist FootJoy.

With a chilly start to the day the weather remained dry with a slight breeze for the players to contend with, as they set off from the first tee at The Bedford on Monday 27 February. For the time of year, the course conditions were excellent, demonstrating that the USPGA greens and tees The Bedford Golf Club course boasts, can be played all year round.

Simon Lilly from Wellingborough Golf Club settled into the game after the first 2 holes and played a solid round to give him a final score of 68, 4 under the course par of 72, leaving him in tied 4th position. Simon, commented, "I had a few frustrating putts, but also had 7 birdies which was great, so generally it was a good round and I really enjoyed it."

The day certainly showed that experience counts, with the seasoned European Tour players all standing at the top of the leader board, including Red Golf Management's Andrew Johnston and former Ryder Cup Team member, Paul Broadhurst.

European Tour player, Daniel Gaunt won the day with a great 6 under par score of 66. It was a close finish at the 18th hole, with Daniel needing a birdie to take the lead over Dan Brooks and Dane Bairstow, who tied in 2nd place with a score of 67. Daniel commented, "Making a few putts was nice; I putted well, particularly down the last nine holes. I have been working really hard on my short game, which has paid off."

Gary Harris, Co-Founder and Director of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour, was pleased with the tournament, "For the start of the playing season and with it being the first real competition of the year for a number of the players, the standard of golf was excellent."

The Bedford event has certainly set the standard of competition for the rest of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series, with the second event of five, being held at Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire on Thursday 1 March. Following the Winter Series is the Jamega Spanish Series starting on 21 March until the 30 March 2012 with 3, two day tournaments.
