Lee James and Luke Joy show class at 3rd Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series event
March 7, 2012

The conditions were tough at High Post Golf Club in Wiltshire on Monday 5 March, for the third of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series, in association with Titleist FootJoy.

With strong winds gusting across the course throughout the day, the players had difficult, bitterly cold conditions to play in and a number of holes where there was a cross wind to contend with.

Martin Sell from Wrag Barn Golf Club, who has played many tournaments at High Post, battled the course to end the day on 73, 3 over par, putting him in tied fifth place alongside Tom Haylock, Gary Sawyer, James Ruth and Ian Brown. Martin commented, "Conditions were tough, it was a case of grinding out as many pars as you can and trying to minimise mistakes. It was a day where par was a good score and not a day where there was a chance of making a lot of birdies."

It was Lee James and Luke Joy who coped best with the adverse conditions, both coming home with a level par score of 70, to share the lead.

Lee James, the 2011 Jamega Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit winner showed his class, on the fifth hole having missed the green he chipped in for a birdie, following up with an eagle at the sixth. Lee commented, "It was hard work out there today, but good fun. The birdie on the fifth and the eagle on the sixth helped, they were the key points on the front nine." Lee added, "It was a tough day, one of those where it was always going to be hard to score low."

Luke Joy also played a solid front nine, swiftly shrugging off a first hole bogey to birdie the second and eagle the fourth. A final birdie on the eighteenth saw him join Lee James at the top of the leader board.

Gary Harris, Co-Founder and Director of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour, was very pleased to hold the third Winter Series tournament at High Post Golf Club, a prestigious venue, the Carris Trophy having been held there in 1999. Gary commented "We had a warm welcome from the High Post Golf Club, unfortunately the same could not be said about the weather conditions on the day, however some outstanding play was seen from Lee James and Luke Joy."

The penultimate event of the series will be held at Aldwickbury Park Golf Club, Hertfordshire on Thursday 8 March with the final tournament being held at Studley Wood Golf Club in Oxfordshire on Monday 12 March. Following the Winter Series is the Jamega Spanish Series starting on 21 March until the 30 March 2012 with three, two day tournaments.
