Martin Sell tops Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series
March 14, 2012

Studley Wood Golf Club, set in 177 acres of tranquil Oxfordshire countryside, was the venue for the final event of the 2012 Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series, in association with Titleist FootJoy.

A foggy start to the day didn't hold up proceedings as Paul Broadhurst tee'd off in the first group of the morning, along with Ian Winstanley and Charlie Cossins. Winstanley, from The Warrington, was the first back to the clubhouse with a score to beat of 3-under, however Stephen Cronin from Wyke Green soon followed with 4-under, as did Nigel Lane and Mickael Fox, putting the three in tied second place. Mickael, from Bearwood Lakes Golf Club, got off to a great start landing 3 birdies in the front nine, with an unlucky bogey at thirteen he pushed on to birdie the last two holes.

It was Martin Sell from Wrag Barn Golf Club, who strode ahead of the field by the end of the day returning a blemish free card, including 3 birdies and a handy eagle at the ninth to finish with a 5-under score of 68. Martin commented, "It is nice to pick up an early season win, I hit some good shots, kept the ball in play, had no bogeys and took advantage of the course's five par 5's."

Martin, who finished fourth in the overall 2011 Jamega Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit, has continued to show his class with a good steady start to 2012. He has consistently featured in the Jamega Pro Golf Tour Winter Series top 10, including three top 5 positions, with the win at Studley Wood taking him to the top of the Order of Merit for the series. "It was a very pleasing day and a great platform on which to build for the coming season." said Martin. He will now have a couple of weeks off competition to prepare for the Europro Qualifying School and the main 2012 Jamega Tour season.

Gary Harris, Co-Founder and Director of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour said, "Once again the Studley Wood golf course was prepared in immaculate condition for the time of the year, we look forward to coming back in the summer for the main Jamega Tour. Many thanks to Ken Heathcote and his team for providing a great venue."

The Jamega team are now looking forward to the Jamega Spanish Swing starting on Wednesday 21 March until the 30 March 2012 with 3, two day tournaments which will be held at the Costa Esuri Golf Club and Jose Maria Olazabal's La Monacilla. The UK main two day tournament season with 24 events starting on 16 April at Hatfield London Country Club including a return to Oxfordshire with events at Studley Wood, Heythrop Park Golf Club and Frilford Heath Golf Club.
