Tom Hollingworth crowned European Long Drive Champion 2012
September 27, 2012

Tom Hollingworth captured his second European Long Drive Championship title in dramatic fashion, prevailing at the European season finale in Gothenburg Sweden. 25 year old Hollingworth from Doncaster Yorkshire, England blew away the completion in tough conditions to take the European title against an all star field of competitors.

Attended by throngs of spectators, this year's European championship was hosted by the Hills Golf Club, Sweden. Owned by European tour player Johan Edfors, the Hills is a spectacular golf resort just outside Gothenburg.

The club hosted the big-hitters from across the globe including reigning European Champion Rikard Anderson, fellow GB teammate, Dan Konyk, and Swedish sensation Peter "Caveman" Carlborg

Tom thundered his way to victory defeating fellow team GB long drive veteran Dan Konyk in the final with a winning shot of 336 yards in appalling weather conditions.

Speaking after the event Hollingworth said "conditions were really tough out there today but I knew if I held it together I was in with a good shot. Hopefully we put on a good show, I really enjoyed battling it out there in the final with Dan"

"I'd been struggling in the build up with my backswing, I felt I was swinging too fast on the way back but I'd been working hard on the range to build a more solid swing whilst maintaining my speed on the downswing, focussing on applying power in the correct sequence in the swing"

"I would like to thank everyone involved in the staging of the event including tournament director Johan Tumba and Patrick Anderson, all the sponsors and the Hills Golf Club"

Hollingworth who holds the current European long drive record at 478 yards won his first European title in 2009, competing in his first long drive golf event. He has since gone on to compete at the highest level in long drive across the globe.

Tom now qualifies for a place in the 2012 Re-Max World Long Drive Finals in Las Vegas, held in October where competitors from across the globe will battle it out for a $500,000 purse.
