Luke Donald to have sinus operation
November 29, 2012

It has been reported this week that world number two golfer, Luke Donald is to undergo a sinus operation during the off-season in order to repair his nasal passages.

Having had a string of problems recently, including recently at the tour event in Dubai, the 34 year-old stated that the problems however, had nothing to do with his performance in the competition:

"My sinuses are all completely clogged up and every time I get a little bit run down they turn into infections. Hopefully the surgery will fix it. It's a pretty quick and easy operation."

He continued,

"I don't like to make excuses but the last couple of days I've had the sinus issue again. I felt a little bit flat and unfortunately I couldn't get things going on Sunday."

Despite being a professional athlete, Luke Donald hasn't been the only golfer this year to have medical issues.

After playing in the Ryder Cup earlier this year, Spaniard Sergio Garcia underwent a form of eye surgery which left him sit out tournaments for a total of seven weeks.

Despite this however, the 32 year-old went on to finish the DP World Tour Championship last weekend at 14- under 274, finishing in tied ninth.

Despite both surgeries being related to the head, neither could be said to be as serious as J.B Holmes' 2011 operation which forced the golfer to withdraw from the 2011 PGA playoffs.

After suffering from Chiari malformations, a condition that causes vertigo-like symptoms, the thirty year old underwent brain surgery in order to cure him.

Unfortunately for Holmes however, doctors found that he was actually allergic to the adhesive that was used on the webbed titanium at the base of his skull. After being airlifted to hospital to undergo another operation, the player returned to the tour late in January this year.

However after Donald's sinus operation it is hoped that Donald will recover swiftly returning to the tour in full health.
