De Vere Golf ambassador Matthew Nixon gets 2013 season off to a great start
December 12, 2012

De Vere Golf ambassador Matthew Nixon got his 2013 season off to a great start this weekend with a career best finish on the European Tour, finishing tied fourth at the Nelson Mandela Championship in South Africa. Nixon fired rounds of 63 and 61 in the weather-curtailed event at Royal Durban Golf Club to maintain his position at the top end of the leaderboard over the weekend, and eventually finished just one shot behind three players who finished on the seven-under par leading total.

The Englishman was fresh from re-gaining his card for the 2013 season at Final Stage Qualifying School just the week before, and continued his good form into the first event of the 2013 Race to Dubai. The high finish provides Nixon with a strong platform to build on for the season ahead, and he will be looking to put in another strong performance at this weeks' Alfred Dunhill Championship.

De Vere, the UK's leading luxury golf resort company continues to show its backing for young golfing talent, with Nixon being just one of the young touring professionals that it supports. Fellow European Tour professional Matthew Baldwin serves as an ambassador for the De Vere Club, the pioneering flexible membership scheme, as well as Tour professionals Scott Pinckney and Alex Belt.

"We would like to congratulate Matthew Nixon for his strong finish in South Africa, and commend his strength of character after coming through Qualifying School just the week before" commented Daniel Hodson, De Vere's Director of Golf, Leisure & Spa. "We are committed to supporting young golfing talent throughout the UK, and Matt is just one of a handful of players that we work with. We hope that Matt can continue his run of form throughout the season, and wish all of our players the best of luck for the 2013 season."
