Former footballer Micky Hazard joins fundraising golfers at Redbourn
December 7, 2012

Redbourn Golf Club welcomed 1980s and 90s Tottenham Hotspur legend Micky Hazard for a day of fundraising among some of the region's kind-hearted golfers.

Taking to the 18-hole Ver Course, which offers stunning views of the Hertfordshire countryside, in aid of Children in Need and the Pepper Foundation, the Spurs man, who also spent time at London rivals Chelsea FC, unfortunately missed out on the prizes, while Redbourn golfers Ann Stowe and Fran Reeves stole the show with 46 Stableford points.

Competition was fierce and the charitable champions finished only one point ahead of runners-up Haydn Drinkwater and Jamie Harris who are both greenkeepers at Redbourn - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - and only countback could separate them from third placed Lee Martindale and Carl Pritchard.

The golfers raised an impressive total of £688.34, which will be split between the BBC's charity, Children in Need, and the Pepper Foundation, which exists to alleviate suffering by funding home care to seriously ill children within the Herts, Beds and Bucks communities.

Ian McDowell, Redbourn Golf Club General Manager, said: "Everyone had a wonderful day and it was extra special to have a former professional footballer among our ranks, together raising money for exceptional causes."
