Watney banks a win at Barclays and returns to world top 20
August 27, 2012

31 year old Nick Watney has endured a difficult year on the PGA Tour but put that behind him with a three shot victory at The Barclays. Watney shot a closing 69 and fellow American Brandt Snedeker finished in second place at Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale. Sergio Garcia was seeking back-to-back triumphs after winning at the Wyndham Championship, but he went from the top of the leaderboard at the start of the day to a tie for third alongside Dustin Johnson after a four over 75. The win takes Watney up to World Number 19, an improvement of 16 positions.

Scot Paul Lawrie won on home soil for the third time in his career at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles. One ahead overnight, the 43 year old shot a closing 68 to beat Australian Brett Rumford by four with a 16 under par total of 272. The win takes him to World Number 30, within a whisker of his best ever World Ranking (29th in July 2000), at a time where he says he's playing the best golf of his career.

This week's other winners were Kim Hyung-sung at the Vana H Cup KBC Augusta on the Japan Golf Tour, Darron Stiles at the News Sentinel Open on the Web.com Tour, Kristoffer Broberg at the Rolex Trophy on the Challenge Tour, Eugene Wong at the Canadian Tour Championship on the Canadian Tour and Adilson da Silva at the Vodacom Origins - Selborne on the Sunshine Tour.
