Paul Streeter gains third Jamega win
July 17, 2012

The only Seve Ballesteros designed course in the UK , The Shire London Club in Hertfordshire, played host to the Jamega Pro Golf Tour when the two day tournament returned to the club on Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 July. Paul Streeter from Lincoln Golf Centre continued his fine run of form with a third Jamega victory taking him to the top of the Order of Merit.

With the course closed on practice day, due to heavy overnight rain, it did not look very promising for day one of the tournament. A rain free night enabled the course to dry out a little and, largely due to the efforts of the green keeping staff, play commenced from the first tee as scheduled at 7.30am on Monday morning, giving the players a chance to complete the first 18 holes without any further delays.

A strong field of 99 tour professionals teed off on day one, however only ten players managed to break par and it was former BMW PGA winner Scott Drummond who topped the leader board with a solid round of 5 under par 65.

Drummond's nearest challengers, on 3 under par, were former European Tour regulars Paul Streeter and Iain Pyman, Asian Tour player Yasin Ali, Dan Osboldeston and Nick Joy. Dan Brooks, who is currently ranked sixth on Challenge Tour, finished 2 under par alongside former Jamega Tour winner David James. At close of play the field was so closely bunched it was clear that any number of players would have a chance of winning the tournament.

Day two saw Michael Moore from Porters Park Golf Club liven things up as he posted a hole in one at the par 3 seventh hole. Paul Streeter had a steady start on the first two holes, but soon got his round going with a wonderful 30 foot putt at the third to birdie and draw level with Scott Drummond, who started slowly with a bogey at the first. Although Drummond settled into his game to card two birdies and an overall score of 6 under going into the back nine, an unfortunate lost ball saw him dropping 3 shots at the par 5 eleventh. This was enough to enable Dan Brooks, Iain Pyman and Paul Streeter to leap ahead of him on the leader board.

It was the last six holes that determined the final outcome, with a potential play off on the cards. Dan Brooks was a strong contender going to the fifteenth but dropped a shot just as Paul Streeter birdied the hole to edge ahead. Brooks held his focus to then birdie the sixteenth, drawing equal once again. It was a great tee shot on the seventeenth from Streeter, a beautifully struck 5 iron landing inches from the hole, which provided him with the birdie putt he needed to win the tournament, signing for a 3 under par score of 67, 6 under for the tournament. "The birdie on the seventeenth was definitely the highlight of the round." commented Streeter when he returned to the clubhouse.

Streeter has had a fairly busy competition season alongside his teaching schedule at the Lincoln Golf Centre. Since he won his first Jamega tournament at Mentmore in May he finished tied 21 st at The BMW PGA at Wentworth followed by a second Jamega win at The Warwickshire. "It is great for your confidence when you win, even when you are not at the top of your game it gives you a feeling that everything is going to go your way."

The Jamega Pro Golf Tour has held tournaments at The Shire since 2010. Gary Harris, Co-Founder and Director of the Jamega Pro Golf Tour said, "The course at The Shire designed by Seve is an absolute masterpiece, the more you see and play it the more your love it. Many thanks to the team at the club for the incredible amount of work they put in under the weather conditions to enable the tournament to be played."

The next Jamega Pro Golf event on the tour schedule will be held in Hertfordshire on 16 & 17 July when it returns to Aldwickbury Park Golf Club.
