McDonald and Roberts strike success in The Shropshire's Senior Open
August 24, 2012

The Shropshire Golf Centre witnessed two closely fought battles as senior and lady golfers from across the region visited the public-pay-and-play facility to compete in its Open Week.

The Shropshire, which is part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator, boasts three nine-hole layouts and the Open Week competitions were held over the Silver and Gold Courses which offer stunning views across the Welsh border.

Home advantage saw Tom McDonald and Stuart Roberts sneak success in the Senior Open with 42 Stableford points, only one shot ahead of home club counterparts, Alan and Bob Lawrence, who finished second on count back ahead of Market Drayton Golf Club duo, Steve Robinson and Dave Evans.

Kath Turner also from Market Drayton was triumphant in the Ladies Open as, scoring a level-par 36 Stableford points to secure victory by just two shots from Oxley Park's Hillary Cattell, who relied on count back to overcome The Shropshire's Lady Captain, Sue Field.

Stuart Perry, The Shropshire Golf Centre General Manager, said: "Our Open Week events are always popular with golfers in the region and it was a pleasure to welcome all the visitors to the seniors' and ladies' competitions.

"The Gold and Silver Courses combine to provide a stern test of golf, and there was some great scoring in both competitions, particularly from our home players.

"On behalf of everyone here at The Shropshire, I'd like to congratulate the winners and I look forward to seeing them return next year to defend their titles."
