Superior Power Play - The Ukrainian way
July 13, 2012

Superior Golf Resort & Spa Course was home to the staging of Ukraine's First Power Play Weekend. Kharkov's golfers were the first in Ukraine to take part in what is being hailed as golf's equivalent to Twenty20 Cricket.

A first for The 5* Superior Resort, the PowerPlay Golf event spanned the holiday weekend and captivated avid golfers and beginners alike. The choice of flags to aim for confused many at first, but with the help of the on course marshalls (PGA AGMS Students Rachael Maitland and David Taylor) the golfers were soon using better course management to choose the flag best suited to their position and ability.

PowerPlay Golf is an exciting 9 hole format in which golfers make risk-reward decisions. Golfers choose to play to the regulation hole designated by a White Flag, or try to score extra points by playing to the Black Flag which is in a more difficult placement. Opting for the Black Flag is called a "PowerPlay", in which more points can be rewarded.

Nick Solski, Director of Golf Told us: "This is the first time we have held a full weekend Powerplay Event, and it has been a great success, we're aiming to enhance the awareness and participation of golf in the Ukraine. Ukrainian Golfers are very daring and love to acheive, so it was difficult to persuade them to aim for the white flags. We saw some spectacular shots, along with some not so spectacular shots!"

The introduction of this exciting new format has definitely fuelled interest amongst visiting golfers at Superior Golf Resort, but it is not the only reason for the rise in numbers. Superior Golf Club is leading the way in Eastern Europe to dispel the traditional stereotypes regarding non participation in golf.
