Williams wins at home in Thornbury Ladies’ Open
August 2, 2012

A three-shot cushion for both home and away champions gave Kate Williams and Ann Lorriman comfortable victories in the Ladies' Open at Thornbury Golf Centre.

Topping a field of more than 100 taking part at the public pay-and-play facility, Kate's 39 Stableford points kept here nearest rival, Sue Rees (36) in second place, four shots ahead of Gail Howell (32) in third.

Ann was victorious among the 57 visitors to Thornbury - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - defeating Janet Warburton, whose 29 Stableford points was only enough on count back to keep 17-handicapper, Lyndall McLean in third place.

Featuring spectacular views across the Severn Estuary, to Wales and the distant Cotswold Hills, golfers from 16 different golf clubs from all over the region competed on Thornbury's stunning 6,308-yard Marlwood Course.

The ladies' raised more than £200 for Headway Bristol. Dedicated to promoting understanding of all aspects of brain injury, Headway provides information, support and services to people suffering from brain injuries, their families and carers.

Melanie Drake, Thornbury Golf Centre General Manager, said: "The Ladies' Open is always a well attended event and it's a pleasure to see so many wonderful golfers from the region visiting Thornbury and playing so valiantly in the adverse weather conditions.

"I'd like to congratulate Kate and Ann on their wins and all the ladies on their fantastic fundraising efforts for such an important cause."
