Paul Dowling scores birthday ace at Thornbury Golf Centre
September 4, 2012

Birthday Boy Paul Dowling celebrated turning 52 in style at Thornbury Golf Centre achieving a hole-in-one on the 143-yard 6 th  hole of the Marlwood Course.

As a novelty Paul and his fellow society members were challenged to playing the hole with an old chipper - a club usually used around the green with the look of a putter and the loft of an iron - provided by event organiser, Jim O'Brien - nobody was banking on anyone taking only one shot with it though.

Good news travels fast at the public-pay-and-play facility - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - and General Manager Melanie Drake met Paul on the 11 th  fairway with a bottle of champagne to celebrate his ace.

Melanie Drake said: "Traditionally, getting a hole-in-one means that it's your round in the clubhouse, so we wanted to turn the tables and get the round in for Paul out on the course.

"It's an incredible achievement and a memory he'll cherish forever."
