Thornbury Golf Centre tops BDGL
October 12, 2012

Thornbury Golf Centre is in a celebratory mood after its men's team topped the table in Division Six of the Bristol and District Golf League (BDGL) securing promotion in the process.

Based at the public-pay-and-play facility - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - the team won 5.5 home matches of six played over the exceptional 18-hole Marlwood Course, including two 5-0 whitewashes.

The squad, captained by four-time club champion Ian Wilkie, secured promotion to Division Five with two matches to spare, but continued to close out the season with a greater overall points difference than its rivals to place them top of the table.

The team benefits from the expert coaching of Thornbury Head Professional, Mike Smedley, as well as the centre's superb practice facilities including the 25-bay covered driving range and nine-hole Severn View Course, one of the most beautiful and enjoyable Par-3 layouts in the UK, which is ideal for experienced golfers to sharpen their short game.

Melanie Drake, Thornbury Golf Centre General Manager, said: "The team will go into Division Five full of confidence following the thrilling performances the players have produced this year to win the group.

"On behalf of everyone here, I'd like to congratulate every player to have represented Thornbury this year, and wish them luck going in to 2013."
