Thornbury Golf Centre hosts successful national Par-3 Championships Thornbury Golf Centre welcomed women from as far away as Leeds, West Yorkshire, to contest the English Women's Par-3 Championships.
The picturesque Severn Course at Thornbury - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - is maintained to the same high standards as its full course, The Marlwood, and offers golfers a challenging variety of holes varying from 84 to 207-yards long. Stuart Fowler, Championship Assistant for England Golf, said: "The hospitality and the facilities at Thornbury were excellent. The Severn Course provides a stern test of players' short games, which was enjoyed by all." The first prize for the team event was awarded to Shirehampton Park, whose team consisted of Anja De Surgh, Babs Giles and Mary Groves, whose score of nett 50 over the 18-holes also secured victory in the individual nett competition. Sarah Priestman from Harborne won the gross prize with a score of 62, which also saw her finish third in the nett with home course advantage being taken by Helen Kirby whose nett 53 earned her second place. Melanie Drake, Thornbury Golf Centre General Manager, said: "It was a privilege to be selected to host this national Par-3 competition on behalf of England Golf and fantastic to see golfers from across the country enthused about playing our Severn Course. "I'd like to congratulate the winners and thank England Golf for selecting Thornbury Golf Centre as the venue for this year's event."
