american golf supports Camp Bastion troops

November 5, 2013

British troops based in Afghanistan can now sharpen their golfing skills during their tour of duty thanks to american golf.

The retailer has provided a golf practice net, balls, as well a set of irons and drivers, to the RAF, which has been stationed at Camp Bastion since October 2001. The equipment has been donated to a group of 20 soldiers from the RAF's Mechanical Transport Maintenance Section.

Camp Bastion is the lead military base for British military operations in Afghanistan. Situated north west of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, the site accommodates over 28,000 service personnel and one of the force's busiest airfields.

Lindsay Brown, CRM manager at american golf, said: "Our forces do a tremendous job, despite the challenges and dangers that they face every day. The package of golfing equipment is a small token of our appreciation for the work they do."

Wes Mills, Senior Aircraft Technician, Royal Air Force, said: "Our lads work 12 hour days, seven days a week, in blistering 40 degree heat, so the kind donation from american golf provides a bit of light relief for our troops. While it might be boosting morale, I don't think Rory McIlroy will have anything to worry about!"
