Birchwood Park Golf Centre makes a hearty donation

April 3, 2013

Kind-hearted golfers at   Birchwood Park Golf Centre have made more than 100 gift donations to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) following a month-long gift amnesty.

The public pay-and-play centre has announced that it will support the national charity throughout 2013 and kick-started the year's fundraising efforts by inviting people from across the region to donate unused or no longer needed items.

Birchwood Park - part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator - cemented its partnership with BHF, by inviting the charity's mascot, Hearty, to a round of golf with the family-friendly golf facility's own mascot, Chip the Bear.

Melanie Drake, Birchwood Park General Manager, said: "With our fundraising efforts focused on one charity this year, we are confident we can make a demonstrable contribution to what is undoubtedly an excellent cause."

The British Heart Foundation has the ambitious vision of a world where people no longer die prematurely from heart disease. To that end the charity aims, within a decade, to:

  • Halve the number of people under 75 who die from cardiovascular disease

  • Make sure at least two thirds of people under 75 survive a heart attack

  • Reduce heart-related deaths in all UK local authority areas to the current level in South East England or below

  • Reverse the increase in childhood obesity.
