De Vere & ISPS Handa support unique blind and disabled tournament

March 6, 2013

De Vere, host venue of the European Senior Tour's flagship event, has once again joined forces with ISPS HANDA to host a unique tournament for blind and disabled golfers, culminating in a Grand Final on Monday 3rd June at De Vere Mottram Hall during the week of the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship. Finalists will enjoy luxurious dining and accommodation in the recently renovated De Vere Mottram Hall, while the top-three finishers in the Grand Final will also be invited back to the course the following day to compete in an exclusive event for Sky Sports featuring golfing legends and sport stars, such as Freddie Flintoff, Colin Montgomerie and Harry Redknapp.

Following the resounding success of last year's inaugural event and the increased demand from golfers up-and-down the country, De Vere and ISPS Handa has committed to increasing the number of qualifying tournaments from four to six in 2013. Each event will be held at one of De Vere's Resorts in the UK in May, with the top-two players from each qualifying for the Grand Final. Fittingly, the first regional qualifying event begins on Tuesday 7 th May at Grand Final host and ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship venue, De Vere Mottram Hall, before moving onto Oulton Hall, Leeds on Wednesday 8 th May; Belton Woods, Lincolnshire (Thursday 9th May); Slaley Hall in Newcastle and Carden Park in Cheshire (Wednesday May 15th) and Heron's Reach, Blackpool (Tuesday 21st May).

"We're delighted to once again welcome ISPS Handa as the title sponsor of the PGA Seniors Championship for 2013. Alongside ISPS HANDA, we have been able to create a unique opportunity for blind & disabled golfers all over the country," noted Daniel Hodson, De Vere, Director of Golf. "Their involvement with the PGA Senior Championship for the first-time last year brought a new dimension to the event and we're delighted that we are able to build on that success. Their commitment and investment in increasing golf's accessibility for blind and disabled golfers is inspiring and mirrors our commitment to developing the game at all levels, including the expansion of these regional blind and disabled events this year."

Having welcomed the likes of ex-Ryder Cup Captains Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance, as well as two-time Major champion Sandy Lyle in recent years, the unique event will offer the blind and disabled golfers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. De Vere Ambassadors will play alongside some of the headline professionals, as well as the blind and disabled golfers, to help launch the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship in appropriate style at the stunning recently renovated resort in Cheshire.
