Stenson and McIlroy favourites for BMW Masters

October 24, 2013

FedEx Cup Champion and Race to Dubai leader Henrik Stenson is the 8/1 joint favourite for this week's BMW Masters.

With only three tournaments left to go before the finale in Dubai the BMW Masters and WGC-HSBC contest, both in Shanghai, represent big opportunities for golfers looking to catch the Swede. His nearest rival in the overall standings is Graeme McDowell with the Northern Irishman at 33/1 for the first tournament.

McDowell's fellow countryman Rory McIlroy is 8/1 joint favourite for the BMW Masters but off the pace in the Race to Dubai standings. Despite a second place finish in Korea last week McIlroy is way down in 63 rd place and will need a strong showing in both Shanghai tournaments to assure his place at the end of season DP World Tour Championships.

However, with some serious prize money, over $30million in total, on offer over the next few weeks there is time for it all to change. Martin Kaymer is 3 rd favourite for the BMW tournament at 14/1 and is in 29 th position on the Race to Dubai leader board. Luke Donald is 4 th favourite out in Shanghai at 16/1 but is only just ahead of McIlroy in the overall standings after an indifferent year on the Tour.

Other golfers in the mix for the BMW Masters title include Lee Westwood at 18/1 , Ross Fisher at 22/1 , Ian Poulter at 22/1 , and Louis Oosthuizen at 25/1 . Richard Sterne is fourth in the Race to Dubai standings with the South African at 40/1 to win the BMW tournament.

With Stenson currently just under half a million points clear in the standings he is 4/6 favourite to clinch the Race to Dubai title. Justin Rose is second in the running at 11/2 but isn't playing at the BMW tournament. Graeme McDowell is at 13/2 after wins in France and Bulgaria this year with Lee Westwood back at 20/1 .

A Paddy Power spokesman said; "After 42 tournaments across more than 20 countries it all comes down to the next few weeks. Henrik Stenson looks on course to be the first man to pick up the FedEx Cup and Race to Dubai titles but some talented Northern Irishmen will be looking to spoil his party."
