Sparks awards Burhill for Outstanding Contribution

June 5, 2013

Burhill Golf Club has been presented with an award in recognition of its outstanding contribution to children's charity, SPARKS.

The SPARKS Golf Merit award was presented at the charity's annual gala dinner celebrating the work of its loyal supporters.

Burhill Golf Club - part of BGL Golf, the UK's largest golf course owner and operator, has hosted musician Rick Wakeman's charity golf day, held in aid of SPARKS for the past eight years, helping to raise £250,000 for the organisation.

Hosted this year by comedian, Dom Holland with awards presented by talkSPORT's Mark Saggers and former Welsh rugby player, Colin Charvis, the evening hosted 300 guests at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel.

David Cook, Burhill Golf Club General Manager, accepted the award on the evening. He said: "It has been a pleasure to host the SPARKS charity golf day for the past eight years and I hope we continue to find ways of supporting them in the future."

Sparks pioneers research projects into medical conditions affecting babies, children and expecting mothers, aiming to improve the quality of life for children and families affected by serious illness or disability, while seeking ways to better diagnose, treat and prevent these conditions in the future.
