Chart Hills Golf Club in Kent presents charity Pilgrims Hospices with £27,000 cheque

April 5, 2013

On Friday 15th March, a cheque for £27,000 was presented to Steve Auty of Pilgrims Hospices charity by David Peachey and Marina Bobeldijk, Club Captains of Chart Hills Golf Club. Funds have been raised for the charity by club members and will go towards the care of those with terminal illnesses in East Kent.

At Chart Hills Golf Club, Club Captains are appointed annually, and will raise funds over the course of the year for their charity of choice. Notable fund raising events included a dance exhibition with Strictly Come Dancing stars Ola and James Jordan, and a charity golf day. With a raffle and auction scheduled at the farewell dinner on 23 rd March, the Captains hope to raise even more towards the final amount.

David Peachey, Club Captain at Chart Hills, said "Without the support and generosity of the owners, Paul and Jennifer Gibbons, the members, management and staff of Chart Hills we would never have raised such a monumental amount to give to Pilgrims. This is a local Kent charity and everyone you speak to has some connection to their local hospice. It relies on the people of Kent to financially support the work they do and I am extremely proud of how Chart Hills' members have dug so deeply into their pockets to help."

Steve Auty, the Chief Executive of Pilgrims, was delighted to receive such a significant amount of money. "The value of such a donation cannot be underestimated. The charity needs to raise £10 million each year to help the people of east Kent and in real terms £27,000 is about the equivalent of palliative care nurse for a year. This is a real boost, and I would like to thank the Club Captains David and Marina and all the members of Chart Hills for their support."

About Pilgrims Hospices

Pilgrims Hospices has been providing care and support free of charge to people in Kent with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers since 1982. Its mission is to sustain, develop and deliver a full range of in-patient, day hospice, community support, bereavement and pastoral care from their three hospice sites in Canterbury, Thanet and Ashford. Having these three hospices achieves the founder Ann Robertson's original aim of hospice care being available within 30 minutes drive of everyone in East Kent.
