Skiing & golf on offer at Costa Brava

February 20, 2013

Golfers visiting the  Costa Brava  this winter will have the chance to combine the unforgettable experience of playing Spain's best golf course with a true alpine pursuit.

"Skiing in Costa Brava has always been a family affair, with resorts devoting their attention to crèches, snow parks and other facilities for the little ones," commented Ramon Ramos, Director at Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board. "From small, friendly, family resorts to extremely large skiable areas, the Catalan Pyrenees offer the latest ski, leisure and accommodation infrastructure."

Away from the pistes, the mountains offer many cultural and culinary attractions, with popular restaurants renowned for their gastronomic delights enticing skiiers with leisurely lunches and late dinners of gourmet cuisine and good quality wine.

"The gastronomy of Costa Brava is reputed to be among the best in Europe, with the second best restaurant in the world, El Celler de Can Roca, and the highest concentration (20) of Michelin-starred restaurants in Spain offering visitors a wide variety of epicurean delights to choose from," continued Ramon Ramos.

"Skiing holidays in the Pyrenees are renowned for their elements of relaxation. Therefore, combining a day on the pistes with a leisurely round at one of Costa Brava's golf courses is very straightforward as,  you can be playing a world-class venue  within just a couple of hours."

PGA Catalunya Resort , a two-time Spanish Open host and World Top 100 Course, is located within easy access of the Pyrenees, as are the courses of  Torremirona Golf Club  and  Club de Golf Peralada , which enjoy wonderful views of the mountains.

Slightly further afield, visitors will find the wonderfully maintained layout of  Golf Girona  and  Empordà Golf , another World Top 100 Course, with its 36 holes set in beautiful parkland.

Club de Golf Costa Brava , one of the region's oldest golf courses, and  Golf Platja de Pals , a British design on the seafront, both hold rich appeal, while those looking for a quick round, should head to the par-3 courses at  Gualta  and  Papalús .

Ski resorts to visit in Costa Brava include:

  • La Molina  - although La Molina is one of Spain's oldest ski resorts with over 100 years of skiing history, the resort offers the latest in technology, facilities and service and is readily accessible by car, bus or train.

  • Masella  - only three kilometres away from La Molina and linked via a cable car, Masella ski resort is famous for its spectacular views over the Cerdanya Valley. The two stations provide a skiable domain of 100 square kilometres, making it one of the largest skiing areas in the Pyrenees, with slopes and descents for all levels.

Other resorts open for the season are the Vall de Núria and Vall Ter - ski resorts in the eastern Pyrenees, both surrounded by 3000 metre peaks.
