Costa Brava welcomes global superstars

August 22, 2013

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Diana Krall and best-selling Latin recording artist Enrique Iglesias are among the plethora of stars from the music and dance industry who will be descending upon the  Costa Brava  region to perform at some of Europe's most renowned festivals this summer.

Golfers visiting the  Costa Brava  during the coming months will be spoilt for choice. From classical concerts and operas to lyrical recitals and dance productions, they will be able take in performances from Spanish and internationally renowned singers, dancers and conductors.

In August, 17 acts will be performing at the  Cap Roig Festival , in the coastal region of Calella de Palafrugell, 30 minutes from Girona, among them will be indie pop band Manel, British guitarist Mark Knopfler and Singer Katie Melua. The open-air spectacular will be held in the botanic gardens of the Cap Roig Castle, overlooking the sea.

Other popular festivals in Costa Brava this summer include the  Festival Internacional de Musica Castell de Peralada , in the north of the region. With appearances from English jazz-pop singer and songwriter Jamie Cullum and Spanish soundtrack composer Alfonso De Vilallonga, audiences are expected to surpass the 40,000-strong crowd that usually attends.

Ramón Ramos, Director at Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board, commented: "Over the years, we have hosted some of the biggest names in music and dance - achievements made possible thanks to the growing popularity of crowd-drawing events such as  Festival Internacional de Musica Castell de Peralada  and  Cap Roig Festival , one of the top ten summer festivals worldwide.

"Each summer our quaint rural spots, medieval villages and historic coastal towns welcome thousands of visitors from across the globe, showcasing an eclectic mix of natural beauty, rich heritage and art all in one location."

The region is also home to the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants - 20 within 5.9 square kilometres - Including El Celler de Can Roca in Girona which has recently been named the World's Best Restaurant (2013) by the   prestigious  Restaurant   Magazine.

Golfers looking to infuse their break to the Costa Brava with the culture of fine dining and a performance or two at the  Cap Roig Festival  have a selection of courses to choose from - all within a 30 minute drive from Calella de Palafrugell. These include:

  • PGA Golf Catalunya Resort, home to Spain's No.1 golf course

  • Club Golf d'Aro Mas Nou, which offers spectacular vistas from its 300m above sea-level perch

  • Empordà Golf, a 36-hole golf and hotel complex with its European Top 100 ranked Links Course

  • British-designed Golf Platja de Pals situated on the Spanish seafront

  • One of the region's oldest courses, Club de Golf Costa Brava, that offers a good test for all standards of player

  • Golf Girona, the only course in Spain sown entirely with Penncross grass

  • Par 3 Gualta - perfect for those looking to perfect their short game or for a quick and pleasant round

Visitors looking to head north to  Festival Internacional de Musica Castell de Peralada  should consider a round at either Club de Golf Peralada or Torremirona Golf Club, which enjoy wonderful views of the Pyrenees.

With the newly opened high-speed train (AVE) line, Girona is just 37 minutes from Barcelona and easily accessible thanks to Girona-Costa Brava Airport, an important Ryanair hub.
