Golfing accolade for Garforth manager

May 10, 2013

A prestigious awards dinner organised by the Golf Club Managers' Association saw a West Yorkshire manager recognised as the best in England.  Dave Carlisle from Garforth Golf Club was runner up in the UK-wide 'Manager of the Year' awards, with only one club manager in Scotland rated more highly.

Dave joined Garforth Golf Club in 2010 and has since become an important member of the Club's Management Team, delivering year on year growth in profit and membership, which has enabled the Club to refurbish many of its facilities.  Even in the face of a difficult recession - which has created an especially challenging time for some golf clubs in the area - under Dave's guidance, the Club's primary seven-day membership category is full, and the club is also welcoming more guests and competition entries.

"We're incredibly proud of what Dave has achieved, and it is wonderful that his hard work has received such high recognition from his peers," comments Alan Garbutt, Board Chairman.   "Garforth is a friendly, local club and Dave has managed to implement both cost-savings in expenditure and growth in membership and player revenue to ensure a healthy and prosperous future - without ever losing sight of both the heritage and ambience of this club."

Dave's reputation is well known throughout the region's golfing community, as he represents the Yorkshire region on the Golf Club Managers' Association. His award comes at an exciting time for Garforth Golf Club, which is currently celebrating its centenary year.

"It is a real honour to be nominated for such an award, so making it to the final two is a wonderful achievement," comments Dave.  "Of course, I would have loved to have won the UK-wide Manager of the Year title, but that gives me something to work towards for the future! I am very much looking forward to working with the Club's board and members to continue to offer one of the very best golfing experiences in the country."
