Busy times at Garforth Golf Club

September 3, 2013

The eyes of Yorkshire's golfers have been on Garforth Golf Club this month, with the club hosting three key regional golf events as part of its Centenary celebrations.

The club hosted the North Leeds Ladies' Past Captains Association tournament, which was combined with the Society of Leeds Golf Captains event, the Yorkshire Team Championship, and the Garforth Golf Club Ladies Centenary Team Trophy, within the space of a week!

Wath upon Dearne Golf Club were victorious in the Yorkshire Team Champtionship, beating the best teams in Yorkshire to win. Their combined score of 429 beat second place Wike Ridge by 9 shots. Wath upon Dearn's Nick Poppleton also shot the best 36 hole score of 70 & 67. The team will now go forward to represent the County in the England finals.

The Garforth Golf Club Ladies Centenary Team Trophy involved ladies teams from throughout the region. In a proud moment, the home Garforth 1 team was presented with the 'best gross score' trophy. Lightcliffe Golf Club were victors in the 'best nett score' category.

Another highlight of the day was the gross 70 returned by Helen Butterfield of Bingley St Ives Golf Club equalling the Ladies course record which Helen set back in 1996.

Garforth Golf Club's Centenary Tournament season will continue with the prestigious Mackenzie Medallion Golf tournament on Sunday 8 September 2013.

Club President John MacMillan said, "We have had a fantastic year on and off the course. It's difficult to pick specific highlights but we can look back on much success and enjoyment, the centenary week of members golf in June, the Centenary Ball and Family Fun Day in early August. We are now looking forward to hosting the Mackenzie Medallion event which will be another highlight of our year. All the clubs participating can be assured of a warm welcome and excellent hospitality."
