Destination Dubai for Golf Care Matchplay Championship finalists

May 2, 2013

After battling their way through a number of qualifying rounds, forty amateur golfers are celebrating after booking their place in the Grand Final of the UK's biggest amateur golf event, The Golf Care Matchplay Championship. The lucky qualifiers, who only paid £30 to enter the event, will now be whisked away to Dubai for a trip of a lifetime after emerging from the tournament's regional qualifiers at the renowned European Tour venue, The Marriott Forest of Arden. Following in the footsteps of such illustrious names as Thomas Bjorn, Ryder Cup Stalwart Colin Montgomerie and Open Champion Darren Clarke, who have all triumphed at the championship venue, the qualifiers will now head to Dubai next month hoping to return as proud champions of the Men's Pairs, Mixed Pairs, and Men's Singles events.

"After having to re-schedule both the North and South Regional Finals due to snow, we could not be more pleased with how both events have panned out. A big thank you must go to the entire team at The Marriott Forest of Arden for all their hard work and support in delivering 18 holes of golf in such pristine condition," commented John Woosey, Tournament Director. "In what is the tenth anniversary of The Golf Care Matchplay Championship we are delighted to report yet another year of record entries, as golfers of all abilities and ages have turned out in numbers to earn a once-in-a-lifetime place at the Grand Final at The Els Club in Dubai."

The popularity of the Golf Care Matchplay Championship is largely down to the all-in nature of the event, open to players of all ability, rather than most other premier amateur tournaments. Men with handicaps of 28 or lower and women with 36 are eligible to compete, as the championship is based on handicap, rather than scratch competition. The Final will no doubt be as intense an affair as the Regional Finals, with competitors experiencing both elation and heartache over the closing holes at The Marriott Forest of Arden.

Iain Burns, Director of Golf at the stunning facility commented, "Once again we are thrilled to be associated with this fantastic event that is televised to a national audience on Sky Sports. We pride ourselves on our long-standing reputation as one of the finest venues in the country and our dedicated team has delivered the course fantastically well today. From everyone at The Marriott Forest of Arden, we wish all the finalists the best of luck at what I am sure will be a magnificent Grand Final in Dubai."

In Dubai the finalists will be treated like Tour professionals as they compete under the spotlight of the cameras at the world-renowned Els Club in next month's finale. The weeklong trip encompasses three rounds of hotly contested competition, return flights to the emirate and the opportunity to soak up the sun and bask in the luxurious surroundings of the recently-opened 5-star JW Marriott Marquis Dubai. As the world's tallest hotel, the iconic building features two towers, with a host of restaurants, bars, lounges, spas, and accommodation overlooking the ocean and desert.
