Golf Hotels around the World

October 9, 2013

There's still plenty of time to chase the sun and fit in those last few rounds of fair weather golf before the year's up. Deciding where to stay on a golf trip isn't always easy and with the amount of golf hotels available, you'll be spoilt for choice.

To help with your decision, we have put together a list of some of the finest golf hotels in popular golfing destinations. Read on to see which one you'd prefer most.

Jebel Ali Beach Hotel, Dubai

A luxury 5-star resort found on the coast of Dubai, the Jebel Ali Beach Hotel truly understands the meaning of a proper golf holiday! The hotel has 231 spacious rooms, with state-of-the-art facilities including a private beach, swimming pools, a spa and naturally, a fine golf course. It's a 9-hole par 36 course to championship standard, providing a tough challenge for all golfing abilities. With four different tee options, you're able to play a variation of the holes and effectively complete a full round of 18 each time you decide to hit the fairways. To complement the course, there are top of the range practice facilities, including a floodlit driving range as well as chipping and putting greens, perfect to get you raring to go! One thing for sure is that you'll enjoy the remarkable views of the Arabian Gulf that Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Greg Norman once witnessed themselves after opening and playing a challenge match on the course back in 1998.

Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort, Florida

Further afield than our other choices, but we simply couldn't leave this one out. Right in the heart of North America's premier golf destination, the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Florida is certainly one you'll remember. The resort has 295 luxury rooms, three fine dining restaurants and numerous leisure facilities. There are two highly rated courses on site, the Tiburon Gold & Black courses, both of which are designed by Greg Norman. They have a natural setting marked out with stacked wall bunkers and intimidating water hazards. A noticeable and favoured feature to this resort is that there is no rough, so it's a great chance to open up your shoulders on the tees and let it rip. Along with the two luxury courses are a PGA TOUR academy and a TaylorMade performance lab, so you know you're in safe hands. The resort was recently refurbished, so there's never been a better time to visit this gem.

Balsamico Traditional Suites, Crete

Located in the north of Crete, this hotel provides fantastic views of the nearby town, Hersonissos, which offers plenty to do, including shopping, go-karting and fine dining. The hotel is a traditional, stone-built complex featuring both an outdoor and indoor swimming pool and a renowned cosy atmosphere. Visitors have the luxury of being able to enjoy the beach as well as the only 18-hole golf course on the island as both are only 3km away. The nearby Crete Golf Club is built to an international PGA standard which has a mountain style layout with expansive fairways, accompanied by rocks and ravines to really test your skills. Look out for the 3rd hole, a tricky par 4 with a fairway full of bunkers and rocks, where we'd recommend using an iron for accuracy!

Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland

One of the most famous names in golf, the Gleneagles Hotel is set within 850 acres in the heart of Scotland; it's the ultimate luxury with three 18-hole championship golf courses. Its most prestigious course, the PGA Centenary Course is designed by Jack Nicklaus and will proudly host the 2014 Ryder Cup; the first time it's been held in Scotland for more than 40 years. The King's and Queen's courses are just as breath-taking and are sure to challenge for any golfer. They both play long, regardless of which tee you're playing off, they're booming in natural beauty and the King's course adds that little bit of a twist by giving each hole a Scottish name. Along with these there's a 9-hole academy course and pitch and putt practice areas to fine tune your game. With 232 rooms including 26 lavish suites, a top of the range spa and four restaurants such as the only two Michelin-starred dining experience in Scotland, the hotel itself is something to behold...

Vale De Lobo Resort, Algarve

Found in one of the most popular golf resorts in Europe, the Vale De Lobo Resort is true paradise for golfers as well as non-golfers. The resort is home to a popular hotel, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a relaxing spa and a mouth-watering restaurant. As well as this, there are numerous luxury villas situated along the beach, letting guests relax in privacy. The resort boasts two of the best courses in the Algarve; the Royal and Ocean courses which are both to a championship standard having hosted the Portuguese Open on two occasions. The Royal course plays dramatically close to the cliff's edge, while the Ocean speaks for itself playing alongside the beach. With a combination between links and parkland style courses, it provides an enjoyable as well as challenging round.

Hopefully this goes to show that golf hotels are not always necessarily focused on the sport itself. The resort facilities can be second to none and there's always plenty to do for the whole family. So, what are you waiting for?
