Play golf in the Azores this summer

June 5, 2013

Golfers of all ages and levels will find plenty to enjoy in the Azores this summer, and with direct flights from the UK starting from as little as £336 per person,  including free travel for golf clubs, golfers in the Azores have never had it so good. Thanks to SATA International (0844 482 1678 or www.sata.pt ) the rolling fairways of Furnas Cedars, the demanding links and woodland combination of Batalha and the relaxed and friendly Ilha Terceira Golf Course are just a few hours away.

This summer season, families are welcomed on to the Batalha Golf Course in Sao Miguel for an introductory morning of golf with a qualified professional coach. With children as young as three allowed on the course it truly is accessible to all ages. After an introduction to the sport of golf, families will engage in swing, short game and putting practise and will then have an hour to put their new skills to the test on the practise course.

It is the first time that children have been welcomed on to the impressive Batalha Golf Course in São Miguel which has played host to two PGA EuroPro golf tournaments. With contoured bunkers, outstanding greens and a chance to spot whales and dolphins in the Atlantic from the back-nine holes, this golf course is a real experience for golf enthusiasts and those who want to appreciate the beauty of the Azorean volcanic landscape. A morning of golf for the family costs  €45 Euros (approx. £38) based on two adults and two children playing.

The Furnas Cedars Golf Course on São Miguel offers tree-lined, undulating fairways that require wise club choices and a high level of precision to challenge all standards of play. Post-game, golfers can soothe any aches and pains in the famous caldeiras (hot springs) near Furnas Lake; each with a different mineral composition, proffering exclusive therapeutic properties. Once again, showing the Azores as an ideal location for those wishing to combine both golf and the best of the Azores. Green fees from €80 ( approx. £68) for 18-holes per person.

Those who are just discovering their passion for golf will love the Ilha Terceira Golf Course with its low, rolling hills, sun-dappled small lakes and azalea-line it is arrguably the easiest of the three courses in the Azores. The Ilha Terceira Golf Course offers an experience that is as much about golf as it is the rugged beauty of the tiny island.  Green fees from €80 (approx. £68) for 18-holes per person.
