Hundreds walk the plank at Hoebridge Golf Centre Family Fun Day

June 25, 2013

Hoebridge Golf Centre welcomed more than 1,000 visitors for its annual Family Open Day, which also marked the official opening of its new Pirate Island Adventure Golf Course.

The Mayoress of Woking, Anne Smith, joined 'Captain Jack Sparrow' at the public pay-and-play centre to mark the launch of the 18-obstacle-strewn-hole pirate-themed layout at Hoebridge, which is part of BGL Golf, the UK's leading golf course owner and operator.

Additional special guests included the Eagle Radio Love Crew and Pirate Island mascots, Pirate Chip and Krazy Kroc, who joined the hundreds of visitors taking part in a variety of activities including face-painting, beginners' golf clinics and free golf for children on the par-3 Maybury Course.

Pirate Island proved most popular however, as 650 visitors armed with a mere putter and golf ball took on the crocodiles, cutlasses and giant shipwreck.

Mike O'Connell, Hoebridge Golf Centre Senior General Manager, said: "Our Open Days are always well attended and Pirate Island proved a popular attraction this year.

"I'd like to thank everyone who came down and helped make the day a success. I look forward to welcoming everyone back again soon."

A round at Pirate Island Adventure Golf costs £8 for adults, £5 for children (aged 4-16) and free for ages 3-and-under.
