Insurance for Golf Clubs

October 1, 2013

People head to golf courses for many reasons, whether it's to play a round or enjoy a meal. Regardless of the activity they are participating in, the objective is usually the same - to get away from their everyday lives and relax.

But a lot can go wrong at a golf course, from errant golf balls damaging property to a fire destroying the club house. That's why it's important to have the proper business insurance for golf clubs.

Some of the things that need to be covered:

  • Buildings. This includes the clubhouse, pro shop, storage sheds, golf cart garages, and maintenance sheds.
  • Property. Don't forget about the golf course itself. In addition to the fairways and roughs, you will also want landscaping, putting greens, driving ranges, and tees covered.
  • Additional structures. There are more on a golf course than you may realize, from signs, course markers, bridges, paved cart paths, benches, and more.
  • Maintenance. Most golf courses have sophisticated irrigation systems and expensive maintenance equipment that will need to be covered as well.
  • However, it's the threat of a potential lawsuit that all golf courses should be aware of. For example, let's say a golfer is severely injured from a trip and sues your course for failing to provide adequate warnings. He wins his case, and you are ordered to pay £250,000. Without golf course insurance, this could be devastating.

  • Whilst considering options its always best to search out specialist insurance experts who offer dedicated products for the requirements that you have. For example Aon offer a specialist "Golf Club Insurance" product.
