Betting outlook good for Justin Rose

June 21, 2013

Justin Rose became the first Englishman to win the US Open for 43 years and is now at odds of 16/1 with Paddy Power to add the British Open title to his trophy cabinet.

Rose clinched his first major after holding off Phil Mickleson and Jason Day to triumph at a treacherous Merion course. Ahead of the tournament Tiger Woods was the stand out favourite and record low scores were predicted. However, the course didn't read the script and Rose won out with a +1 final score.

The last Englishman to win the US Open was Tony Jacklin and the two time major winner thinks there is more in store for Rose. Paddy Power give odds of 5/4 that he'll win between 2-4 majors in his career and 7/1 that he'll win between 5-7 . With two majors left in the calendar year Paddy Power give odds of 13/2 that he'll finish 2013 with exactly two majors to his name . Paddy Power have also given the golfer odds of 150/1 to win both the British Open and the US PGA .

Rose's playing partner on the final day at Merion was fellow countryman Luke Donald and he'll be hoping that Justin's win could spark an era of dominance for English golfers. Donald is 20/1 to win his first major at Muirfield in July with Lee Westwood at 25/1 to win what would be his first. Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter is 50/1 to break his major duck at the British Open.

A Paddy Power spokesman said; "Some predicted Merion would be easy but the basket laden course proved to be one of the toughest majors in recent memory. Attention will now turn to the British Open with Tiger, despite his miserable time in Pennsylvania, going in as favourite."
