Four golfers conquer Macmillan Longest Day Challenge at The Shropshire Golf Centre

July 1, 2013

Four fundraisers have tackled 72 holes and 300 shots for The Longest Day Golf Challenge at The Shropshire Golf Centre, raising more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The public pay-and-play centre boasts three nine-hole courses offering stunning views across the Welsh border, and the fourball, commencing at 5.00am, walked each of them twice before concluding their day with a third and final knock, ending at 9.30pm, around the Silver and Gold layouts - an equivalent of 14.1 miles in total.

Taking part in the challenge were Club Captain, John Hughes, and golfing friends Gil Grant, Dave Hughes and Stuart Perry, The Shropshire Golf Centre General Manager. He said: "John and I both have first hand experience of the work Macmillan does and it's rewarding to support them any way we can."

Stuart added: "We ditched our trolleys and golf buggys and carried our clubs, a weight that is not insignificant when you're playing your 72 nd  hole of the day. We'd all like to thank everyone for their generous donations and support, it kept us motivated."

Macmillan Cancer Support provides practical, medical and financial support and push for better cancer care. Their goal is to reach out and improve the lives of everyone affected by and living with cancer in the UK.

In 2012, over 500 teams took part in the Longest Day Golf Challenge and raised more than £560,000 to help people affected by cancer in the UK.
