Lumine set to take centre stage in 2013

February 20, 2013

LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community is set to cement its status as one of Europe's most alluring new golf resorts, having been bestowed the honour of hosting a series of high-profile tournaments and industry events in 2013. Located in the heart of the Costa Daurada region, LUMINE has made an instant impression on golf travellers and organisations thanks to its attractive proposition of 45-holes of championship golf, abundance of first-class leisure, wealth of accommodation options, sumptuous local cuisine and traditional Spanish hospitality.

The 16 th edition of the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) takes place from 11-14 November and will be the undoubted highlight event of the year, as international tourism suppliers, buyers and media from around the world descend upon LUMINE for golf's premier travel show. The annual mecca for the golf travel industry will see the Troon-managed facility open its doors and take centre stage as the region demonstrates its diverse golf, leisure and cultural offering.

Elsewhere on the calendar, the PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship returns to LUMINE from 1-3 March and takes place this year over both the LUMINE Lakes and LUMINE Hills layouts. An impressive 120 pairs will compete in a highly-competitive better-ball tournament that continues to go from strength-to-strength and provides a welcome springtime competition for PGA Professionals from across Europe. In June, LUMINE greets aspiring young Seve's and Garcia's from across the country as they compete in the hotly-contested Spanish Junior Championship. Following a successful first staging of European Tour Qualifying School Stage 2 last November, it has been confirmed that aspiring young professionals and season campaigners will battle it out later in the year over the Greg Norman designed LUMINE Lakes course, in hope of securing their playing rights for the 2014 season.

Calle Carlsson, General Manager of LUMINE Golf & Beach Club, part of the LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, commented: "I have no doubt that 2013 will see LUMINE Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community position itself firmly on the international golfing map. It is an honour to have been chosen to host so many significant events and be afforded the opportunity to showcase our inspiring resort and unrivalled golfing product. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationships with the European Tour and PGAs of Europe as well as setting new standards when we host the IGTM and the Spanish Junior Championship."

Visitors to LUMINE will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the variety of golf on offer. Winding its way around the picturesque Sèquia Major wetlands, the Greg Norman designed, Lakes course bears all the hallmarks of the Great White Shark and is undoubtedly the most testing of the resorts three courses. A links-style championship layout, it features several water hazards and tests all aspects of the game. Located within 170 acres, LUMINE Golf Club also includes the more traditional Hills Course, a second 18-hole championship course that runs through pine and olive trees with spectacular views of the nearby coastline. The aptly named 9-hole Ruins Course, another Norman design, weaves its way through Roman archaeological remains from the second century and completes a diverse 45-hole offering of immaculately presented golf that caters for golfers of all ages and abilities.

In addition to the comprehensive golf offering and world-class practice facilities, LUMINE Golf Club boasts two fully-equipped clubhouses, impeccable service and hospitality, numerous accommodation offerings to suit all tastes and budgets, several stunning restaurants serving superb Mediterranean cuisine and the acclaimed LUMINE Beach Club. In close proximity to two international airports at Barcelona and Reus, guests are also spoilt for choice when it comes to après golf options from the moment they step off the plane. From one of Europe's biggest theme parks and thriving nightlife to Michelin star restaurants, wine tasting in the nearby Priorat region and the historic towns of Tarragona and Cambrils, LUMINE has all bases covered.
