Lumine hosts second successful edition of PGAS of Europe Fourball Championship

March 22, 2013

Lumine Mediterránea Beach & Golf Community, one of Europe's most alluring new golf resorts, strengthened its partnership with the PGAs of Europe as it welcomed the return of the prestigious PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship last week. Located in the heart of the Costa Daurada, the resort, also a European Tour School Qualifying venue, was selected for a second consecutive year in acknowledgment of its first class facilities and 45-holes of championship golf.

The 2013 PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship witnessed a distinguished gathering of PGA Professionals from across Europe for the highly competitive better-ball format. Going from strength to strength, this year's event saw 66 pairs competing over the Greg Norman designed LUMINE Lakes course and the LUMINE Hills course. Following 54-holes of close competition, it was the Austrian combination of Uli Weinhandl and Jurgen Maurer who took home the €4,500 first prize after carding a total of 21-under par, aided by a spectacular hole-in-one in the first round. The English pair of Mark Ridley and David Clark finished just one shot behind despite a last minute eagle on the final hole.

"It has been an honor for us to welcome back some of the leading PGA Professionals in golf this week and build upon our relationship with the PGAs of Europe," commented Calle Carlsson, General Manager, Lumine Golf Club. "The growth of the event in 2013 is demonstrative of the success and allure of the comprehensive golf and leisure offering we have here, and reflects upon our long-term strategy of growing the venue on an international scale. I would like to extend a big thank you to our event partners, Turespana, Catalan Tourism Board, Costa Daurada Tourism Board, Port Aventura and the Costa Daurada Golf Association, who have all been instrumental to the success of this event."

PGAs of Europe Chief Executive, Ian Randell said; "We were delighted to return to LUMINE for the PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship where the courses and off-course facilities are consistently in prime condition. Playing across both the Lakes and Hills courses enabled us to invite an expanded field of 66 pairs for welcome spring time competition for many PGA Professionals. We would like to extend our congratulations to Uli and Jürgen on an exceptional performance, and our thanks to LUMINE Golf Club as a first-class host to our event."

Visitors to LUMINE will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the variety of golf on offer. Winding its way around the picturesque Sèquia Major wetlands, the Greg Norman designed, Lakes course bears all the hallmarks of the Great White Shark and is undoubtedly the most testing of the resorts three courses. A links-style championship layout, it features several water hazards and tests all aspects of the game. Located within 170 acres, LUMINE Golf Club also includes the more traditional Hills Course, a second 18-hole championship course that runs through pine and olive trees with spectacular views of the nearby coastline. The aptly named 9-hole Ruins Course, another Norman design, weaves its way through Roman archaeological remains from the second century and completes a diverse 45-hole offering of immaculately presented golf that caters for golfers of all ages and abilities.

In addition to the comprehensive golf offering and world-class practice facilities, LUMINE Golf Club boasts two fully-equipped clubhouses, impeccable service and hospitality, numerous accommodation offerings to suit all tastes and budgets, several stunning restaurants serving superb Mediterranean cuisine and the acclaimed LUMINE Beach Club. In close proximity to two international airports at Barcelona and Reus, guests are also spoilt for choice when it comes to après golf options from the moment they step off the plane. From one of Europe's biggest theme parks and thriving nightlife to Michelin star restaurants, wine tasting in the nearby Priorat region and the historic towns of Tarragona and Cambrils, LUMINE has all bases covered.
