Craig Ferris new pro at Luton Hoo

April 3, 2013

Craig Ferris is the new driving force at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa following his appointment as the resident Golf Pro.

It marks a return to his hometown for 26-year-old Craig who trained in America and has played in golf tournaments around the UK and overseas.

Born and bred in Luton, Craig is now coaching players of all ages and abilities at Luton Hoo's parkland course set amongst over 1,000 acres of Capability Brown landscape. In addition to one-to-one privates lessons he has launched a range of initiatives including starter packages and clinics for local residents, hotel guests and corporate golfers.

Inspired by his father who was a keen club golfer, Craig took up the game when he was 12 and it quickly developed from a pastime to a professional passion.

"When I left school I got a golf scholarship to go to America where I played golf and studied sports psychology at a university in California," said Craig.

On his return he joined The Grove, Hertfordshire, where he spent seven years working in different aspects of the golf operation. He successfully completed the PGA program to become a fully qualified member of the Professional Golfers Association and was promoted to the position of Assistant Golf Pro .

"Coming from the area I know all about Luton Hoo and it is dream job to come back to work near my home and develop Bedfordshire's newest course and raise the profile of the club," he said.  "I am very keen to show that golf is a game for all abilities and ages and you're never too young or old, to take it up.

"I am offering a wide variety of tuition for individuals and groups and in addition to clinics and corporate golf days, which can include options such as beat the pro, swing checks, putting competitions and video analysis, I'm looking forward to hosting a range of events at the club."

Outside work Craig is a keen snooker player. He plays for the county and is a member of Dunstable Snooker Club.

The golf course at Luton Hoo is 7,107 yards long and par 73 off the championship tees, with a choice of four different tees to play from, and the club offers a range of different memberships. For further information all 01582 698856 or visit www.lutonhoo.co.uk .
